Make your own homemade oven.
Science part 5
Directions:
Create your own oven. Take a picture of it and write a short paper, about one page.
Write about the process of making the over. What food did you make with it? How did it come out? Also talk about other ways you use solar energy and why it's important.

Instructions to create your own oven.
1) Make sure the pizza cardboard is folded into its box shape. Using your ruler and a pencil, measure a window with a 1 inch margin on each side of the top of the box.
2) Have an adult carefully cut out 3 sides of a square in the lid of the box, leaving one edge connected. Do not cut out the fourth side of the square, which is the one closest to where the pizza box lid hinges. Gently fold the flap back along the uncut edge fold the window up along the uncut line. This will become your sun window.
3) Glue the aluminum foil to the inside of your window, smoothing out as many wrinkles as possible. Now, wrap the underside (inside of the sun window) of the flap that you made, with aluminum foil. Tape it so that the foil is help firmly but so that there’s not too much tape showing on the foil side of the flap.
4) Line the rest of the inside of the box with foil.
5) Tape the black construction paper on the inside bottom of the box, on top of the foil.
6) Cut plastic wrap an inch larger than the lid opening on the box top. Tape it on the underside of the lid opening. Add another piece of plastic wrap to the top of the lid opening. Try to make the seal as airtight as possible. This creates a layer of air as insulation that keeps heat in the box. It also makes a window you can look through at the food you’re “cooking.” Be sure the plastic wrap is tight.
7) Place a flour tortilla on a piece of aluminum foil and cover half of the torilla with cheese. (You can choise to make another food, NO meat. )
8) Put the prepared food, tortilla or gram cracker or something similar, with foil underneath into your oven and place outside in the sun.
9) Close the pizza box but leaving the top flap open.
10) The flap of the box top needs to be propped open—a dowel or ruler works great. Use a bamboo skewer, stick or dowel to prop the flap open.
11) Choose an angle that reflects the most light into the solar oven. Play with the angle of the flap to see how much sunlight you can get to reflect on the food.
12) Cook! Check your food every 10 minutes. This could take anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours depending on how sunny it is outside.
13) When the cheese or other food is melted, fold the tortilla in half and enjoy!
