What is PISA?
The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is a triennial international survey which aims to evaluate education systems worldwide by testing the skills and knowledge of 15-year-old students.
Mission statement:
Vision Statement:
Every school child around the world might take the PISA test at the age of 15. This test aims to compare children around the world in the subjects of math, science, and reading. Most children cannot understand why they need to take such a test. It seems so impractical. We wish to share with students the everyday importances of all the subject areas on the PISA test. We want them to learn through fun activites and through things that are interesting to them, like their favorite dish, pizza.
We aim to be a study sanctuary for children taking the PISA test (programme for international student assessment). We strive to make a fun come-to place where students do not mind spending their time (studying for tests :) !
Overview
Sciences
The main topic is solar energy.
Students will read about the basic principles of solar energy. They will watch lively videos to get excited about this alternative energy. The final assignment will be to make a homemade solar powered over. They will post pictures of their creation and a short paper about their experience making and using it.
Mathematics
Students will start with a problem that might happen in their daily life, choices about pizza. They will learn how to use mathematics to solve these problems. The exercises and videos will help students revise their knowledge. Students will learn about calculating the perimeter and area of different shapes.
Reading
Pizza is delicious, pizza is good, but do we know where this special dish comes from? Let us take a look at the history of pizza. There are three different levels of reading. Please start from the beginning, History of Pizza 1, finish the quiz and then move on to the next level. Every reading has a short quiz at the end with four true/false questions for comprehension, and three multiple choice questions for vocabulary. Every reading will present new vocabulary for you and the information will enhance your comprehension.
